Violation of a Bell-type inequality in the homodyne measurement of light in an Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen state

چکیده
An optical Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen ~EPR! state is produced in the spontaneous parametric downconversion of an ultrashort classical pump pulse. It is shown both theoretically and experimentally that this results in the violation of a Bell-type inequality of the kind proposed by Grangier et al. The experiment is based on measuring interference between the light in the EPR state and weak light pulses in a coherent state. The maximum observed visibility of the interference pattern was (8964)%. This interference can be regarded as a manifestation of nonlocality in the sense described by Banaszek and Wodkiewicz, even though the EPR state has a positive Wigner function. We develop the theory of two-channel homodyne detection with ultrafast pulses and then apply it to the EPR state generated in a type-II collinear geometry. Particular attention is paid to the investigation of how dispersion and phase matching influence the violation of local realism.

Bell’s Nonlocality Can be Detected by the Violation of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen Steering Inequality
Recently quantum nonlocality has been classified into three distinct types: quantum entanglement, Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering, and Bell's nonlocality. Among which, Bell's nonlocality is the strongest type. Bell's nonlocality for quantum states is usually detected by violation of some Bell's inequalities, such as Clause-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality for two qubits. Steering is a manifestati...

Two aspects of the relativistic version of the EinsteinPodolsky-Rosen-Bohm (EPRB) experiment with massive particles are discussed: (a) a possibility of using the experiment as an implicit test of a relativistic center-of-mass concept, and (b) in uence of the relativistic e ects on degree of violation of the Bell inequality. The nonrelativistic singlet state average h j~a ~ ~b ~ j i = ~a ~b is r...
متن کاملAll-Versus-Nothing Proof of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen Steering
Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering is a form of quantum nonlocality intermediate between entanglement and Bell nonlocality. Although Schrödinger already mooted the idea in 1935, steering still defies a complete understanding. In analogy to "all-versus-nothing" proofs of Bell nonlocality, here we present a proof of steering without inequalities rendering the detection of correlations leading to a ...
متن کاملRelativistic entanglement of quantum states and nonlocality of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen(EPR) paradox
Relativistic bipartite entangled quantum states is studied to show that Nature doesn’t favor nonlocality for massive particles in the ultra-relativistic limit. We found that to an observer (Bob) in a moving frame S′, the entangled Bell state shared by Alice and Bob appears as the superposition of the Bell bases in the frame S′ due to the requirement of the special relativity. It is shown that t...
متن کاملRelativistic Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen correlation and Bell’s inequality
We formulate the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) gedankenexperiment within the framework of relativistic quantum theory to analyze a situation in which measurements are performed by moving observers. We point out that under certain conditions the perfect anti-correlation of an EPR pair of spins in the same direction is deteriorated in the moving observers’ frame due to the Wigner rotation, and sh...
